There are no artificial alternatives for human blood, and thousands of Sri Lankans depend on blood transfusions for survival. Every year, several women die from causes of pregnancy and childbirth due to inadequate resources in the blood bank. The Kandy Blood Bank has been in dire need of urgent blood donations for a long time. The Rotaract Club of Kandy annually organizes blood donation campaigns to contribute to the blood bank and do what we can to uplift the resources available.
The project “Every Drop Counts” was conducted by the Rotaract club of Kandy with the mission of lending a supportive hand to the Kandy blood bank in these difficult times.
This blood donation campaign was organized jointly by the Rotaract club of Kandy, the Rotaract Club of Kandy Metropolitan, Rainbow Health Care Center, and the Blood Bank of Kandy District. The blood drive was executed under the Community Service Avenue, on the 9th of August 2022, at Rainbow Healthcare, Kandy.
New and old blood donors joined this worthy cause and over 70 blood donors donated blood at the blood donation campaign. This project was hugely successful and ensured that all individuals and communities have access to timely supplies of safe and quality-assured blood and blood. Moreover, the blood bank was given the assurance and hope that we are there to help them out in times when support is needed.
As a club, we always remember that there is absolutely nothing more beautiful than someone who goes out of their way to make life beautiful for others.
