Children are the world’s most valuable resource and its best hope for the future. And they should be celebrated not just one day but every day.
Though every day should be celebrated for children, the 1st of October is a reminder to do so, the day on which we celebrate International Children’s Day. In order to spend this day productively, the Rotaract Club of Kandy initiated the community service project ‘Joylicious’ with marginalized communities as secondary avenues, on the 1st of October 2021, where dinner was provided to the differently-abled children in the orphanage Daya Niwasa, Kandy.
The project chair was Rtr. Rasika Baskaran, who also brought up the initial idea. As per the request of the Sister in charge Sr. Rose Agnes of Daya Niwasa, 80 Kottumee packs were delivered to the orphanage.
Due to the pandemic situation the country was facing, the dinner was delivered to the orphanage instead of handing it over by the club members considering the safety of the children. It should be mentioned that all safety precautions were followed during the donation.
The main objective of this project was to provide the children with a meal of their preference and to remind them that it is their day and it should be celebrated with joy. This was also a great opportunity for the Rotaract Club of Kandy to bring a smile to the little souls at Daya Niwasa. The objectives of providing the children with dinner and also giving them the assurance that they are not forgotten and that there are people out there to help them in all situations were successfully fulfilled by the end of this project.
