[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]“Sambuddhaya” was a project specifically organized to celebrate “Vesak” during the COVID-19 lockdown. Vesak is usually celebrated with many religious and cultural activities. Buddhists of Sri Lanka, decorate their houses and public places with lights, colourful lanterns called ‘Vesak Kudu’, ‘Thorans’ and arrange various cultural events to bring happiness to everyone on that day. The prevailing situation of Sri Lanka became a barrier to celebrate Vesak in the usual manner, but we Team RACUOCFMF with the Rotaract Club of Kandy and the Interact Club of Girl’s High School managed to celebrate and spread the feeling of Vesak in our own way through virtual platforms. The project was conducted in 3 phases, simultaneously. The first phase was the ‘Vesak Sithuwili’ where we conveyed the best teachings of Buddha to the viewers in different posts. The second was the ‘Vesak Lantern Competition’ where we shared posts to encourage people to design attractive and creative lanterns from what they have at home. We received several submissions, from which we selected the top 3. The last phase was the ‘Bhathi Gee Sangrahaya”, where some members of the 3 clubs sang 3 beautiful Buddhist songs, ‘BhakthiGeetha’ which were posted during the Vesak Day at different times.
