Thai Pongal is a four-day- long festival celebrated by Tamil Hindus as the thanksgiving for the rain Gods and for the year’s harvest. Therefore, the members of the Rotaract Club of Kandy celebrated Thai Pongal along with Annai Illam Mannar orphanage girls who are affected by war in order pursue happiness on this blessed day, while getting to know what Thai Pongal is and strengthening the bond between the club members. This project gave the members an opportunity of going on a club outing which will encourage all to be involved in Rotaract Activities more.
Each and every single rituals were done by our club members and we were guided by the orphanage In-charge while educating our members about the rituals and giving us a brief about what Thai Pongal is, why do they celebrate Thai Pongal, and the History of Thai Pongal and assisted by the kids at orphanage. Then all the participated club members enjoyed freshly made Pongal with the kids at the orphanage. We carried out this project because it will help members get to know about other religions and which will be helpful for them to be united. After the Pongal celebrations members went around Mannar and had a fun filled time exploring the City. Transportation for the project was provided by PDG. Suri Rajan.
